Application Process

  • All complete applications are reviewed by program faculty, with decisions made after applications close in February.
  • All applicants must meet minimum requirements to be considered for admission. Meeting minimum requirements does not guarantee admission.
  • Applications are reviewed and considered for admission based on a combination of academics and experience that best fits with the program's current open research opportunities.

Submit Personal/Goal Statement

Applicants must submit a personal statement describing their academic background, professional interests, and reasons for pursuing graduate study in this program. The statement should highlight relevant experiences, career goals, and how the program aligns with the applicant’s professional aspirations.

A current resume or CV is required and should be uploaded directly to your application portal.

Submit Letters of Recommendation
  • Two (2) letters of reference are required — requests submitted through the application portal.
  • Letters should come from individuals who can speak to your academic and/or professional experience.
  • Letters from friends or family members are not acceptable.

Academic Requirements

Degree Requirement

Completion of a Bachelor’s Degree, in Biology (or other related area) from a U.S. regionally accredited institution, or international equivalent, before matriculation.

GPA Expectations
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 (including all coursework taken with no forgiveness for retakes).
  • All applicants must meet minimum GPA requirements to be considered for admission.
International Applicants

International applicants or applicants with foreign coursework must also submit:

  • A credential evaluation from World Education Service (WES) or ECE, sent directly to ³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏ Graduate Admissions, confirming degree and grade equivalency to that of a U.S. bachelor’s degree.
  • Proof of English language proficiency, if English is not the applicant’s first language.

What Happens After You Apply

  • The Office of Graduate Admissions will notify you of receipt of your application and any missing or pending items.
  • After reviewing for minimum requirements, applications are reviewed by the program for admissions decision.
  • Admissions decisions are released on a rolling basis after review.

Before Attending — Compliance Requirements

Prior to matriculation, accepted and deposited students will be required to complete the following compliance requirements:

  • Submission of all outstanding requirements or conditions; such as final transcripts for degree or coursework verification.
  • Completion of physical examination with proof of up-to-date immunization status. Please refer to ³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏ’s Student Health Services for detailed information.
  • Satisfactory completion of a criminal background check and/or drug screen prior to matriculation, as well as periodically throughout the program (as required by clinical affiliations).
  • All students must be able to meet the Academic and Technical Standards of the Athletic Training profession.

Policies

All materials submitted as part of the application become the property of ³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏ and will not be returned or released to anyone, including the applicant. This policy includes letters of reference, primary and secondary applications, personal statements, transcripts, and other supporting materials. Policy exceptions

Policy Exemptions

All criteria presented in this summary are subject to change per professional accreditation requirements, changes in curriculum and/or other institutional standards, and clinical affiliation requirements.

Exceptions to admission policies are rare and granted only when necessary to maintain fair and consistent standards for all applicants.

Transfer Credit

Transfer credits may be awarded to students who transfer to ³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏ from another Doctor of Pharmacy program. The School of Pharmacy will review courses and award transfer credits on a case-by-case basis.

Experiential Learning

No credit will be awarded for experiential learning.

How can I find out about the status of my application to ³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏ’s Master of Science in Biological Sciences program?

You will receive an email confirming receipt of your verified application from the Office of Graduate Admissions. All communication from Graduate Admissions will be sent to the email address listed on your ³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏ Graduate application. Does state residency play a role in admissions to ³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏ’s M.S. in Biological Sciences program?

There are no quotas for Maine or New England students. Prospective students from all geographic regions are encouraged to apply for admission.
