Charging Station Access Instructions

EV Owner Collaborative

This is a professional collaboration, and EV owners are expected to act in the community’s best interests to maintain the privilege of on-campus charging.

Please report charger maintenance issues by calling Facilities Maintenance at ext. 2368 or .

³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏ EV Decals

You must have a ³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏ EV Decal to park in the charging spaces and charge. This is in addition to the appropriate parking permit for your campus and position.

Visitor Day Pass Registration

Charging is free for visitors, but you must register with the Office of Safety and Security to obtain a charging day pass. If you don’t see an EV decal on a car, it’s either unregistered or a visitor’s. You are welcome to call Safety and Security to report a vehicle charging without an EV decal (or a non-EV parked at a charger).

Leave Car Charging Ports Unlocked

Your car's charging port must remain unlocked while charging at a Level-2 charger so it can be removed upon completion of your charge. All vehicles can be set to keep their charging ports unlocked. If you don’t know how to do this, please consult your owner’s manual or YouTube. Charging ports must remain unlocked in order to use the Level-2 campus chargers. You may lock your charging port when using your own charging cord at a Level-1 outlet.

Charging Limits

Level 2 chargers have a 4-hour charging limit. You can stay plugged in to the 110V outlets for up to 8 hours.

Striped Level-1 outlet spaces are designated as EV only from 7–10 a.m. EVs can park and charge in these spaces for 8 hours, but after 10 a.m., internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles may park in these spaces if they are vacant.

Active Charging

You must be actively charging your vehicle to park in a space designated for electric cars.

Dash Tags

Use Dash Tags to indicate your expected charging completion time. If you don’t leave a dash tag indicating the time your charge is expected to be completed, it is considered ok for someone to unplug you. You can find sample dash tags in the Outlook group files, which everyone who has purchased a decal can access (or you can leave a note on your dashboard with the expected completion time).

Coordinate Charging

Registered users can access other users’ contact information and should use it to coordinate charging as needed. Also located in the Outlook group is a spreadsheet of everyone in the EV Owner Collaborative group. Listed in that spreadsheet, you will find the license plate, make, model, and color of each vehicle registered in the program. If you have concerns or need to coordinate, contact those people directly to work out solutions. If you have tried direct communication and not found a resolution, please contact Safety and Security.

Care of Charging Stations

Registered EV owners must treat the electric vehicle chargers and cables with care, ensuring they wind the cord around the holsters, replace the charger plug into the station after use, do not drive over any charging cables, and do not otherwise damage the charging equipment.
